Joan Bennett Kennedy's Boston apartment, where she lived for over 45 years, has hit the market at $2.59 million, listed by her children Ted Jr. and Patrick.
This is more than a luxury condo: it's a piece of American political history, bearing the personal design touches of a woman who was a pianist, a senator's wife, and a public figure in her own right.
The Big Picture

Joan Bennett Kennedy, who died in October 2025 at age 89, bought the apartment in the 1970s with her then-husband, Sen. Ted Kennedy. After their 1982 divorce, the property became hers and served as her primary residence until her death. Located in a historic building on the Charles River, the three-bedroom, three-bathroom home still bears hallmarks of her time there, including a Steinway piano by the fireplace.
Listing agent Linda Barrett of Douglas Elliman, a close friend of Bennett Kennedy, says the piano will likely be moved before sale, but the space retains unique details. "There was a designer in Boston that was very well known; his name was Richard Fitzgerald, and he helped to design the space with Joan," Barrett shares. "And it was just beautiful. It was really very beautiful."
“Joan Bennett Kennedy's Boston apartment, with Charles River views and personalized design, offers a rare chance to own a piece of political history with artistic sensibility.”
